Factors That Could Push Cooking Gas Prices Higher

1. Naira Depreciation
A weaker Naira against the US dollar makes imported gas and refining inputs more expensive. Even with Nigeria’s domestic gas reserves, a significant portion of LPG still relies on imports or imported materials.

2. Rising Global LPG Prices
High demand for LPG in Asia and Europe, particularly during winter months, has driven international prices up. These fluctuations impact local prices due to Nigeria’s exposure to global market trends.

3. Distribution and Transportation Costs
Costs along the supply chain—from ports to filling plants and retail outlets—have risen because of increased diesel prices and security challenges on roads.

4. VAT and Other Levies
Although the federal government has promised to remove VAT on LPG, inconsistent tax enforcement and growing regulatory costs continue to influence market prices.
