The Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a suspected armed robber believed to be connected to the killing of late Labour Party (LP) lawmaker, Honourable Justice Azuka.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Azuka, who represented Onitsha North I Constituency in the State Assembly, was abducted on December 24, 2024, while travelling home for the Christmas holiday. His decomposing remains were later found on February 6, 2025, near the Second Niger Bridge.
According to the Command, the 26-year-old male suspect was arrested by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, during a targeted raid on criminal hideouts in Iyowa Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area, on December 8, 2025.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect sustained serious injuries following a fierce gun duel with operatives before his arrest.
In his confessional statement, the suspect allegedly admitted to leading various criminal networks operating within Anambra and surrounding states and further revealed his role in the abduction and eventual murder of the lawmaker.
During the operation, police recovered a locally-made Beretta pistol and eleven rounds of live ammunition from the suspect.
Ikenga added that the suspect bears alarming body tattoos with inscriptions such as “No Forgiveness” and “No Mercy,” indicating his violent disposition.
The Command described the arrest as a major milestone in ongoing efforts to dismantle organized criminal gangs across the state.
This marks the second high-profile case in recent years in which a serving Anambra legislator has been kidnapped and killed, following the 2022 murder of lawmaker Okey Okoye.
The Police urged residents to remain alert and continue to provide actionable intelligence through confidential channels to help safeguard communities.
