Crisis Erupts: All Progressives Congress In Oyo Divided Over ‘Consensus Candidates’ List

There is rising tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State following the circulation of a purported list of “consensus” candidates for upcoming elections.
The controversial list, which surfaced over the weekend, reportedly included names of individuals earmarked for key positions such as governorship, deputy governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives seats.
According to the list, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, was named as the party’s governorship candidate. Alli, an indigene of Ibadan, previously served as Secretary to the Oyo State Government.
Mr Soji Adedeji was also listed as the deputy governorship candidate, while a member of the House of Representatives, Aderemi Oseni, was said to be pencilled down for Oyo South Senatorial District.
The list further suggested that Yunus Akintunde would seek re-election for Oyo Central Senatorial District, while former Head of Service under ex-Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Mrs Hannah Ogunrsan, was listed for Oyo North.
In addition, several House of Representatives aspirants were reportedly named across constituencies in Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Ibarapa, and Oke-Ogun zones.
However, many party members and aspirants, particularly those who have invested heavily in their political ambitions, have expressed dissatisfaction with the alleged list.
Some aggrieved members, speaking anonymously, described the development as concerning, warning that it could deepen internal divisions within the party. They also argued that any attempt to impose candidates would undermine internal democracy and fairness.
Reacting to the development, the Oyo State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Olawale Sadare, dismissed the list as fake and misleading.
He stated that the party had already launched an investigation to identify those responsible for circulating the document.
Sadare further assured members that no official list of candidates exists at this stage, emphasizing that the party has not commenced its nomination process.
He reiterated that the circulating list is false and should be disregarded, noting that the party is yet to begin activities related to expression of interest, nominations, or primaries for the 2027 elections.
