Appearing on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, NALPGAM’s National President, Oladapo Olatunbosun, stressed that there has been no official increment in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Following the industrial face-off between members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Dangote Refinery, the cost of refilling gas cylinders spiked, ranging from ₦1,700 to ₦2,000 per kilogram depending on location, and in some extreme cases, reaching ₦3,000. The situation also triggered scarcity in parts of the country.

Olatunbosun, however, accused some marketers of exploiting the temporary supply shortage to make excessive profits at the expense of consumers.

“I sympathise with Nigerians as President of NALPGAM because this situation was never our intention. I must categorically state that there has been no official increase in the price of cooking gas.

“What we are witnessing is the handiwork of some marketers taking advantage of the supply gap and market pressures to hike prices. This is wrong, and as an Association, we strongly condemn it.

“By the grace of God, normalcy will be restored in the coming days,” he assured.
