The Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has rejected reports suggesting he has declared for the presidency ahead of the 2027 election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The claims surfaced two days ago, but Baba-Ahmed clarified in a Channels Television interview on Friday that he has not formally announced any presidential ambition and was merely reaffirming his membership in the Labour Party.

He stated, “I never declared to contest for the presidency; I simply reiterated my membership in the Labour Party. While it is possible in the future, one must wait for the Independent National Electoral Commission’s timetable and the party’s decision.”

Baba-Ahmed also reaffirmed his strong personal and political ties with the LP’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, despite Obi’s recent move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Addressing speculation about a falling-out, he revealed that Obi did not extend an invitation to join the ADC, but their relationship remains cordial.

“Peter Obi did not invite me to join him in the ADC,” Baba-Ahmed said. “Our personal relationship is solid. In fact, he attended a wedding at my house on the 12th in person.”
