Emeka, who runs clothing stores in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was apprehended on October 8, 2025, upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Acting on intelligence, NDLEA officers conducted a body scan that revealed the presence of hard drugs both inside his system and hidden in his private parts.

A total of 58 wraps of cocaine were found in his underwear, while another 69 wraps were excreted under strict medical supervision — altogether weighing 1.388 kilograms.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives intercepted three international drug consignments bound for the United Kingdom at a courier firm in Lagos between October 9 and 10. The seizures included 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine cleverly concealed in glass ceramic blocks, 114 grams of pentazocine, and 168 grams of tramadol injections, along with 48 grams of tramadol capsules disguised as Vitamin C tablets.

The agency also thwarted several smuggling attempts to other countries, including:

  • 2.6 kilograms of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol packed in black soap tablets heading to Turkey.

  • 169 grams of cocaine hidden in ladies’ handbags destined for Australia.

  • 568 grams of “Loud” (a potent strain of cannabis) concealed in herbal containers bound for the United Arab Emirates.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, officers intercepted 27,510 rohypnol pills hidden inside sachets of alcoholic beverages en route to South Africa. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of Samuel Omoruyi (46), also known as Yellow, the suspected mastermind, at Oyingbo Market on October 2, following the arrest of two accomplices.

In a separate bust, Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, a businessman based in Italy, was apprehended while attempting to smuggle 3,700 tramadol pills (225mg) and 2,600 tapentadol tablets (200mg) concealed in food items to Europe. He confessed to trafficking the drugs for another person in exchange for €945.

Across the states, NDLEA operatives made further significant seizures:

  • In Edo State, Emmanuel Sunday (33) was arrested with 47 kilograms of skunk.

  • In Osun State, Nureni Ayobami Eleweodo (48) and Oladejo Taiwo (52) were caught transporting 635 kilograms of skunk in a Toyota Hiace bus, while two others were nabbed with 100 kilograms nearby.

  • In Rivers State, Okoro Julius (20) and Onyebuchi Nwibo (25) were arrested with 8.5 kilograms of skunk.

  • In Katsina, Sulaiman Kalalu (46) was found with 29.5 kilograms of cannabis in his residence.

  • In Niger State, Yisa Daniel (29) was caught with 22,000 tramadol capsules, 800 pentazocine ampoules, and 150,000 exol-5 pills in New Bussa.

  • In Ondo State, operatives raided a forest camp and recovered 312 kilograms of skunk, while 141.8 kilograms were seized from two suspects along the Benin-Lagos Expressway.

  • In Kaduna, Rufai Ahmed (27), alias Farin Malam, was arrested while transporting 150,000 exol-5 tablets from Lagos to Katsina.

Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, holding sensitization programs in schools and communities across Adamawa, Ebonyi, Katsina, Enugu, Niger, Kogi, Anambra, Rivers, Kano, and Osun States, to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.

Commending the officers involved, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), hailed their professionalism and resilience, stating:

“Their tenacity, discipline, and professionalism continue to strengthen our fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse across Nigeria.”
