El-Rufai Drops Hint On 2027 Presidency, Sparks Political Buzz

El-Rufai, now a member of the African Democratic Congress, clarified his stance following reports suggesting he was preparing to contest for the presidency.
The clarification was issued on April 14, 2026, in a statement released by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye.
In the statement, El-Rufai denied any connection to comments attributed to him regarding a presidential ambition, noting that the remarks were credited to an individual described as his political associate without his approval.
He emphasized that throughout his public career, he has always expressed his views personally and does not rely on others to speak on his behalf—a principle he says remains unchanged.
El-Rufai further stated that any official position concerning his political future would only be communicated directly by him or through his authorised spokesperson, not through third parties.
