Ex-IGP Okiro Says Tinubu Deserves 8 Years – Here’s Why Nigerians Should Listen! 🇳🇬

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, has thrown his support behind President Bola Tinubu for a second term, praising his administration as bold, reform-oriented, and unprecedented in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Ibadan, Oyo State, Okiro noted that Tinubu assumed office amid significant national challenges and has tackled them through carefully planned, step-by-step policy measures.

He commended the President’s leadership style, saying it reflects unusual courage in addressing Nigeria’s longstanding structural issues. Okiro emphasized that Tinubu’s cross-sector reforms, though initially difficult, are already producing positive outcomes that could position the country for sustainable growth by the end of his first term.

“President Tinubu has taken tough but necessary decisions,” Okiro said. “These reforms are starting to yield results, and over time, Nigerians will witness their full benefits.”

He highlighted the removal of the fuel subsidy as one of the administration’s most challenging actions, acknowledging the initial hardship but stressing its importance in stabilizing the economy. According to Okiro, no recent Nigerian President has demonstrated such boldness.

Okiro urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive, arguing that consistent backing would allow Tinubu to consolidate reforms and achieve his long-term vision. He also pointed to Tinubu’s record as Lagos State governor as a clear indicator of what could be expected from a full eight-year presidency.

“His achievements in Lagos demonstrate capacity, vision, and consistency. They provide a glimpse of what Nigerians can expect over eight years,” he stated.

On the issue of insecurity, Okiro expressed optimism that Tinubu’s ongoing security interventions would significantly reduce crime nationwide. Recalling his collaboration with Tinubu during the former governor’s tenure, he attributed Lagos State’s relative peace to an effective and coordinated security strategy, which he believes can serve as a model for the country.

“I am confident that the current security strategies will curb insecurity and reduce criminality across Nigeria,” he added.

Okiro was in Ibadan to officially endorse Tinubu and inaugurate the Grassroots Mobilisation for his campaign. During the visit, he also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Sarkin Sasa. He was accompanied by leaders from various youth and elders’ forums, including Alhaji Mahmud Sani-Yerima, National Coordinator of the Northern Youth and Elders’ Awareness Forum, along with other zonal coordinators.
