Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed this during a briefing with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, following a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

The governor revealed that, acting on the President’s directive, the first commander of Operation Savannah Shield has arrived in Kwara State and has begun active operations.

AbdulRazaq said his visit to the Villa was primarily to update the President on the situation in Kwara and to express gratitude for the swift response and support provided to bring the crisis under control.

He stated:
“I came to brief Mr. President about the attacks in Kaiama Local Government and to thank him for promptly establishing Operation Savannah Shield. This initiative will significantly help deter further attacks and restore calm in the region.

“After meeting the President, I am confident. As of today, the first commander of Operation Savannah Shield has reported in Ilorin, Kwara State, and has started operations immediately. We are relying on the military to carry out their duties effectively.

“The President has directed the armed forces to intervene decisively, neutralize the threat, and ensure peace and security are fully restored.”
