He made the remarks during an interview on News Central TV.

The David’s Christian Centre pastor explained that opposition to tattoos often stems from personal opinions, church rules, or individual interpretations, rather than scripture. He noted that many people treat tattoos as a moral issue without offering clear evidence.

“Claiming that tattoos are wrong without proof is unfair and misleading,” he said.

Okonkwo also cautioned against judging people based on their appearance, arguing that such thinking restricts growth and understanding. He compared the stigma surrounding tattoos to blaming clothing for a crime, asking rhetorically whether jeans should be considered bad simply because someone wore them while committing a robbery.

The pastor emphasized that tattoos do not define a person’s character, pointing out that both good and bad individuals may have tattoos, and their presence does not determine who they are. He argued that judging others by appearance rather than values is flawed.

Okonkwo further connected this mindset to the church’s reluctance to engage in politics, noting that many believers avoid certain roles because they are perceived as impure, leaving important positions to people deemed unsuitable.

He urged Christians to focus on faith, character, and actions instead of judging others based on appearance or cultural expectations.

The pastor recently sparked discussion online after revealing a Bible-inspired tattoo on his arm, featuring a depiction of John 3:16.
