Faith Switch! Five Nigerian Stars Who Left Christianity For Islam

The Nigerian entertainment scene has seen several well-known figures embrace Islam and adopt Muslim names.

While some made the decision after marrying Muslim partners, others say their conversion followed personal spiritual reflection and a desire for deeper meaning.

Below are five notable celebrities who transitioned from Christianity to Islam:

1. Burna Boy:
In 2025, Grammy-winning singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, revealed in an interview with American streamer Playboymax that he had converted to Islam in his quest for truth.

The “Stand Tall” crooner explained that he was raised in a Christian home because it was the religion of his parents and his environment. However, he acknowledged that despite exploring different beliefs, he is still searching for spiritual clarity, noting that his move to Islam has raised even more questions for him.

2. Mercy Aigbe:
In 2023, Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe announced that she had embraced Islam and adopted the name Hajia Minnah.

She stated that her conversion followed her marriage to Nollywood producer Kazim Adeoti, who practices Islam.

3. Priscilla Ojo:
Social media influencer Priscilla Ojo, daughter of actress Iyabo Ojo, converted to Islam after marrying Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, a Muslim.

The couple held elaborate wedding ceremonies in both Nigeria and Tanzania. After her conversion, Priscilla adopted the name Hadizah Mkambala.

4. Adebimpe Oyebade (Mo Bimpe):
Actress Adebimpe Oyebade, widely known as Mo Bimpe, converted to Islam when she married fellow actor Lateef Adedimeji in 2021, taking the Islamic name Rahmatullah.

She previously shared that her parents were initially hesitant about the marriage due to religious differences. According to her, her father especially questioned her decision to marry a Muslim, but eventually gave his approval after meeting with her husband.

5. Faithia Balogun:
Faithia Balogun was born into a Roman Catholic family but later embraced Islam during her marriage to actor Saidi Balogun.

She adopted the Muslim name Fathia and also holds the Islamic chieftaincy title of ‘Atesin Se Adinni’.
