Speaking during an interview on AIT on Monday, Bala said he was invited to what he understood to be a routine gathering for the admission of new members. However, he later discovered that the event was actually organised to unveil a new leadership structure headed by David Mark.
He explained that the true nature of the event only became clear after proceedings had begun, noting that it coincided with Nwosu’s resignation and the announcement of a new set of party executives.
According to Bala, the development marked a significant escalation in the party’s internal crisis, especially as the emergence of the new leadership, including figures like Rauf Aregbesola, raised concerns among some members.
“I was told it was an adoption of new members, but Ralph Nwosu misled me into attending the handover ceremony of the David Mark-led group into the ADC,” Bala said.
“That same day, Nwosu announced his resignation and also unveiled David Mark and Aregbesola as part of the new executive structure,” he added.
The ADC has been grappling with prolonged internal disputes, with multiple factions laying claim to its leadership. The emergence of the Mark-led bloc has further deepened divisions, with Bala and his supporters rejecting the arrangement.
Following the controversial event, Bala said he initiated steps to address the situation through internal party mechanisms. He disclosed that about a week later, he convened a National Executive Council meeting and held consultations nationwide before taking further action.
After the consultations, Bala said he formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of his position as deputy national chairman and declared himself acting national chairman of the party.
He also alleged that the crisis intensified after he uncovered what he described as irregularities, including the alleged use of his forged signature on documents related to the resignation of former party officials, which he claimed paved the way for the new leadership.
Bala added that he has since taken legal action against the faction aligned with David Mark and has also brought the matter to public attention.
