Fubara made the remarks on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt after officially receiving his APC membership card from the state party chairman, Tony Okocha.
He emphasized that his defection was a strategic decision aimed at aligning the state with the federal government for the overall benefit of Rivers people.
The governor also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, acknowledging the President’s role in helping to stabilize his administration during turbulent political times.
“Let me thank my chairman for taking up this task. As he rightly said, it’s a spiritual assignment. I appreciate you for accepting to embark on it.
“It is indeed a spiritual assignment because when I made this decision, it was for the safety, protection, progress, and development of our dear state. We cannot be working at cross purposes with the federal government and the ruling party.
“There is every reason to support Mr President. If for nothing else, I personally know the sacrifices he made to ensure that we remain in office.
“So this decision is my own way of reciprocating—clearing the path to make his 2027 re-election in this state smooth and seamless. Now that we are all in the same party, because in truth, we have always been with him, though from different flats.
“We are now in one flat. This makes the job easier and helps us deliver on our promises to Mr President. I thank the national leadership and the state chairman representing the National Chairman. You can take this message back to him.
“We will do everything necessary to keep the APC strong, vibrant, and dominant in Rivers State. And beyond that, I consider it my responsibility from this moment to ensure the party is adequately supported.
“I want to assure you that whatever the party leadership in this state needs will become my responsibility.”
