According to the agency, the incident took place on Tuesday evening at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
In a statement shared on social media, the Vienna-based organisation said the impact did not disrupt operations at the plant.
“The International Atomic Energy Agency has been informed by Iran that a projectile struck the premises of the Bushehr NPP on Tuesday evening. No damage to the facility or injuries to personnel have been reported,” the statement noted.
The agency’s Director-General, Rafael Grossi, called for calm, urging all sides to act with caution to avoid escalation and potential nuclear-related risks.
He reiterated the need for restraint during the ongoing tensions to prevent any possibility of a nuclear incident.
The Bushehr facility, located in southwestern Iran, remains the country’s only active nuclear reactor and was first connected to the national electricity grid in 2011.
Iran has been under strict U.S. sanctions since 2018, after Washington withdrew from a nuclear agreement that had provided sanctions relief in exchange for limits on Iran’s nuclear activities.
Although Western nations have raised concerns about Iran’s nuclear intentions, Tehran has consistently maintained that its programme is strictly for peaceful and civilian use.
