In a statement on Friday, the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, condemned the report as “a blatant lie and a shameless fabrication” engineered by mischief makers intent on creating political tension.
Bere affirmed that the governor remains firmly committed to his mandate and has not joined any other political party.
“Governor Mutfwang has not defected to the Young Progressives Party. Should there be any change in his political status, he will communicate it through official and verified channels to the people of Plateau State,” the statement clarified.
The government urged citizens to ignore the rumour and stay focused on the ongoing development efforts across the state.
“We call on supporters, well-wishers, and all patriotic Plateau citizens to dismiss this falsehood entirely and remain united in advancing the Plateau project,” Bere added.
He also noted that under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership, the state remains “safe, stable, and progressively stronger and more resilient.”
Speculation about the governor’s alleged defection has lingered for months, triggering mixed reactions within the APC. However, Mutfwang—elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—has repeatedly affirmed his loyalty to the party and reiterated again on Friday that he has not left the PDP.
