Governor Okpebholo Proposes ₦605 Billion Budget To Edo State Assembly
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday presented a ₦605 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the Edo State House of Assembly. This budget represents a 25% increase from the 2024 budget.

In his address, Governor Okpebholo outlined that 37% of the proposed budget, which amounts to ₦223 billion, would be allocated to recurrent expenditure, while the remaining ₦381 billion (63%) would be dedicated to capital projects aimed at fostering infrastructural growth.
Describing the budget as a product of wide consultations, Okpebholo emphasized its commitment to accountability and transparency. He reiterated that the 2025 budget is designed to advance his administration’s five-point agenda: security, infrastructural development, healthcare, food security, and education. The Governor also aligned the state’s priorities with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Okpebholo stressed the importance of improving road infrastructure, allocating ₦162 billion for road development across the state. He acknowledged the challenges faced by residents in traveling between communities and assured that his administration would focus on building a more connected and economically vibrant Edo State.
Regarding education, Okpebholo outlined plans to improve the state’s education system, including addressing the deteriorating conditions of schools from primary to tertiary levels. He also announced that his administration would provide ₦500 million monthly subvention to Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, to support its revival.
The Governor also detailed initiatives in security, stating that 20 new patrol vehicles had been purchased for the state’s security forces, with plans for additional procurement in the coming year. He announced the lifting of the ban on Edo State Vigilante activities, aimed at enhancing security across the state.
For healthcare, ₦63.9 billion has been earmarked for the 2025 fiscal year, including N1.8 billion for health insurance to improve access to quality healthcare services. Additionally, N4.5 billion has been allocated for the agricultural sector to enhance food production, farm mechanization, and security for farmers.
Governor Okpebholo concluded his presentation by thanking the Speaker and members of the Edo State House of Assembly for their continued support. He assured that the budget would go a long way in improving the socio-economic conditions of the people of Edo State.
