Governor Yusuf Appoints New Chief Of Staff After ‘Scrapping’ The Role

This development comes months after the office was dissolved in December 2024, following the removal of the former Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, who was later reassigned as Commissioner for Commerce and Investment.
According to Bature, the decision to revive the Chief of Staff office is part of Governor Yusuf’s strategy to strengthen governance and boost service delivery.
Dr. Sani, a distinguished medical doctor and retired Permanent Secretary, brings over 40 years of civil service experience. Prior to this appointment, he served as Special Adviser to the Governor on Civil Service Matters. A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he also holds a diploma from Bayero University, Kano, and is a Member of the National Institute (mni), awarded by NIPSS, Kuru.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sani has held several top administrative and clinical positions, including Director General roles in the Ministries of Health and Commerce, and clinical leadership at Murtala Muhammad and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospitals. He has participated in over 40 national and state-level committees and represented Nigeria in international forums on health and public administration.
In a related appointment, Governor Yusuf also named retired Major General Mohammed Sani as the new Director General of Special Services, Government House. A seasoned infantry officer, Maj. Gen. Sani brings more than 35 years of military service, with experience in peacekeeping, national security, and conflict resolution.
Both appointments are effective immediately. Governor Yusuf congratulated the new appointees and expressed confidence in their abilities to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s goals.
“These appointments are part of the Governor’s reform-driven agenda and commitment to inclusive, efficient governance,” the statement read.
