“He Betrayed Our Mandate!” – APGA Demands Senate Declare Abaribe’s Seat Vacant

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has called on the Nigerian Senate to declare the seat of Enyinnaya Abaribe vacant following his defection to another political party.

The party made this known after a National Working Committee meeting held in Awka, where key decisions were taken and later communicated to the media by its spokesperson.

Abaribe, who represents Abia South Senatorial District, was among several lawmakers who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress. His defection was officially announced during a Senate plenary presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Reacting to the move, APGA described his action as a betrayal of the mandate given to him by voters under its platform. The party insisted that such a defection should not be allowed to stand and urged the Senate leadership to uphold the Constitution by declaring his seat vacant.

At the same time, APGA commended the Senate leadership for its handling of the matter so far, noting that it supports steps aimed at preserving democratic principles.

The committee also cautioned party members at all levels to remain disciplined, particularly as preparations begin for the party’s 2026 primary elections. It warned that any member who violates party rules or disrupts internal processes would face appropriate sanctions.
