The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticized former presidential candidate Peter Obi over his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on Sunday at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2026 National Convention, Wike argued that Obi left the Labour Party because he lacked the leadership capacity to handle internal crises.
He questioned Obi’s decision to exit the party during a period of internal conflict, comparing it to the actions of some PDP governors who recently defected.
“Leadership is not easy,” Wike said. “It demands courage, firmness, and commitment.
“What has happened with some governors who left only shows a lack of leadership qualities. I draw a comparison with the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
“Peter Obi once aspired to be president and was given a platform through the Labour Party. When the party faced a crisis, that was the moment for him to demonstrate leadership. Instead, he left because he could not resolve the issues.
“In the same way, some governors sought a platform to become governors and succeeded. But when challenges arose, rather than show vision and courage, they also chose to leave. This shows who can truly stand firm in times of crisis.”
