House Of Reps Reports 161 Proposals For Constitutional AmendmentDeputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has revealed that the House Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution has received proposals for amendments in approximately 161 areas. Kalu, who also chairs the committee, made the disclosure during an interview with journalists following his presentation at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) meeting in Abuja, where he was joined by other principal officers of the House.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Describing the meeting as “productive,” Kalu emphasized that engaging with state governors was crucial for accelerating the constitutional amendment process. “Without their involvement, the progress of this constitutional review would be slow,” he said.

Kalu further explained that the committee had informed the governors of plans to visit various states and geopolitical zones to gather public opinions on specific constitutional issues. “We have received about 161 proposed amendments, and we plan to provide a detailed breakdown of these areas during our upcoming engagements,” he added.

The Deputy Speaker stressed that the committee would continue its consultations with the governors, seeking their input on the amendments. Additionally, Kalu requested that the governors nominate a liaison officer in each state to facilitate communication and streamline the feedback process between the states and the committee.
