Prominent activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticized the reported payment of ₦1.7 million as gratuity to retired Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a widely circulated video, retired DSP Esther Marcus alleged that after 35 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force, she received ₦1.7 million as a gratuity and is now on a monthly pension of ₦40,000. Marcus claimed she retired in 2018 and expressed dismay over the meager payment.

Reacting to the video, Sowore expressed deep frustration, stating that “Nigeria does nothing but evil to its workers,” and labeled the situation a grim reflection of the country’s treatment of its workforce.

Posting on his X account, Sowore contrasted the disparity in earnings, noting that while a retired DSP struggles with such low compensation, Nigerian senators reportedly earn ₦29 million per month.

“How is it possible for someone who worked for 35 years to be paid ₦1.7 million ($1,100) as gratuity? This is heartbreaking!” Sowore wrote.

He added, “It’s the same country where a senator takes home ₦29 million monthly. The saddest part is that these @policeng officers would readily suppress those who stand against the very system oppressing us all!”
