Buni made the statement on Tuesday after addressing delegates at the end of the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
He declared that he would rather lose his life than betray Gaidam, emphasizing that he would never abandon the man who placed his trust in him and supported his political rise.
“I would rather die than betray our mentor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam. I remain profoundly grateful for the role he played in shaping my political career,” Buni said.
He added that he has not forgotten his roots and would never turn against someone who believed in him.
According to the governor, political success is built on trust, noting that his own journey is a testament to that principle.
“I want to be remembered as someone who never betrays those who stand by him,” he stated.
Buni also urged the newly elected party officials in the state to remain committed and to uphold trust and integrity as they carry out their duties.
