Ibadan Chiefs Shake-Up: Makinde’s Brother, Eight Others To Receive Prestigious Titles

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, is set to preside over the elevation of Governor Seyi Makinde’s elder brother, Olumuyiwa Makinde, along with eight other chiefs in the Otun Olubadan line on Friday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement from the Olubadan’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, the ceremony will hold at Oke-Aremo Palace, Ibadan North Local Government Area, starting at 11 a.m.

Olumuyiwa Makinde, a distinguished Ibadan-based lawyer, will be elevated from Aare Onibon to Gbonka Olubadan. Prominent engineer and businessman Dotun Sanusi is slated to rise from Ajia to Bada Olubadan.

Previously, Oba Eddy Oyewole-Foko, Osi Olubadan, became Otun Olubadan, while Oba Kola Daisi, Asipa Olubadan, was promoted to Osi Olubadan, and Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Ekerin Olubadan, advanced to Asipa Olubadan. Other notable promotions included Oba Muritala Akande, who moved from Ekarun to Ekerin Olubadan, and Chief Kola Babalola, elevated from Abese to Ekarun Olubadan.

Oba Ladoja ascended the throne following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.

The statement further revealed that House of Representatives member Akin Alabi will be elevated from Jagun to Ajia Olubadan, while promotions from Mogaji to the competitive Jagun title have been suspended until further notice.

The media aide detailed the full list of upcoming promotions:

  • Olumuyiwa Makinde: Aare Onibon → Gbonka Olubadan

  • Dotun Sanusi: Ajia → Bada Olubadan

  • Akin Alabi: Jagun → Ajia Olubadan

  • Chief Dauda Gbadamosi: Aare Ago → Ayingun Olubadan

  • Chief William Akande: Lagunna → Aare Ago Olubadan

  • Chief Oluyinka Akande: Oota → Lagunna Olubadan

  • Chief Olufemi Ogunwale: Aare-egbe Omo → Oota Olubadan

  • Chief Wasiu Aderoju Alaadorin: Gbonka → Aare-egbe Omo Olubadan

  • Chief Abiola Anlamole: Bada → Aare Onibon Olubadan

These elevations highlight a significant reshaping of the Ibadan chieftaincy hierarchy under Oba Ladoja’s leadership.
