He made the statement during an interview with SYMFONI TV.

The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) noted that Nigeria’s current reality falls far short of what should be expected under effective leadership.

He explained that if the country had been properly governed over the years, many senior political figures would have long stepped aside to rest and allow younger leaders to take over.

According to him, ongoing governance challenges have made withdrawal from politics difficult for many experienced politicians.

Atiku added that their continued involvement is not motivated by personal ambition, but by a desire to promote better leadership, strengthen institutions, and uphold constitutional governance.

He said: “Nigeria has suffered from years of poor governance, and that is why many of us are still active in politics longer than we planned.
