I’m More at Home In APC Than PDP, ADC” – Obasanjo’s Daughter Iyabo Makes Bold Political Confession

Speaking in an interview with Nigerian football icon Segun Odegbami on 103.7FM Eagle7 Sports, Iyabo said her return to active politics after nearly 15 years was prompted by sustained pressure from supporters urging her to re-enter the political space.
She explained that the call for her comeback did not originate from her, noting that a group she did not organise had been working independently for about two years before approaching her.
“They began speaking to me about a year ago, telling me they believed I was the best candidate and wanted me to return,” she said.
The former Ogun State Commissioner for Health ruled out a return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying she feels more at ease with the political actors within the APC.
While acknowledging that the ADC was once an option, Iyabo said the coalition party was still in the process of organising itself and was not yet fully structured.
According to her, the APC offers a more comfortable and welcoming political environment.
“I see APC as my natural home. I have no animosity toward anyone in the party, and I feel comfortable with the people I know there,” she said.
She added that she feels more at ease in the APC than among some political figures she knows in the PDP and ADC, expressing confidence and satisfaction with her decision.
“I have a complete sense of belonging here. It feels like the right place for me,” she added.
Iyabo recalled that she lost her re-election bid in 2011 to Senator Gbenga Obadara of the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), after which she returned to the United States to focus on her academic career, eventually rising to the rank of professor.
