Impeachment Drama: Governor Makinde Reacts, Sends Strong Message To Opponents

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reacted to the controversy surrounding an alleged plot to impeach him.

Reports had recently emerged claiming that former Oyo State First Lady, Florence Ajimobi, met with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, over a supposed plan to remove the governor from office.

However, speaking on Thursday during the inauguration of key committees aimed at boosting the state’s tourism sector and preparing for the International Tourism Summit 2026, Makinde played down the allegations.

He noted that his administration has about one year and one month left in office, adding that discussions about what comes next remain speculative.

Makinde also made a light remark about the impeachment rumours, suggesting that such an outcome is uncertain.

At the event, he inaugurated two committees — one to organise the upcoming International Tourism Summit scheduled for May 12–14, 2026, and another to develop a 25-year tourism master plan for the state.

He described the initiatives as critical to Oyo State’s long-term development, stressing that the committees are expected to shape policy, attract investment, and create lasting impact beyond his administration.

The governor urged members of the committees to approach their responsibilities with seriousness and dedication, emphasising that the projects are designed to benefit the people of the state.
