INEC Breaks Silence On Viral 2027 Election Dates, Issues Firm Denial

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed claims that it has announced dates for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, Adedayo Oketola, the Commission clarified that no timetable has been released for the 2027 polls.

INEC described the timetable currently circulating as false and urged members of the public to disregard it.

The statement, made available to Naija News, explained that any election schedule issued outside the legal framework cannot originate from the Commission. It noted that the Electoral Act mandates INEC to publish a Notice of Election no later than 360 days before the date fixed for a general election.

The Commission assured Nigerians that the official timetable for the 2027 elections would be released at the appropriate time and communicated through its verified and official channels.

INEC said it operates strictly in line with the law, stressing that it has not issued any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.

It reiterated that when the timetable is eventually released, it will fully comply with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022.

The Commission also called on the media and the public to ignore the misleading reports and rely only on information from INEC’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates.
