Inside Story: Aide Clarifies Adelabu’s Silence On Tinubu’s Resignation Deadline Directive

The media aide to the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, Bolaji Tunji, has stated that despite the approaching deadline set by the presidency, his principal remains committed to formally declaring his governorship ambition at the appropriate time.
Responding to enquiries from The Nation, Tunji said Adelabu would take the necessary steps when the time is right, stressing that he has never shied away from expressing his political aspirations.
He added that the Minister remains focused on his goal of contesting for the governorship of Oyo State and will act in accordance with the stipulated timeline.
According to him, Adelabu is expected to comply with the directive before the deadline to demonstrate his commitment to the race.
Tunji noted that, so far, only a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, has stepped down from his position as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, to pursue a governorship bid in the 2027 elections.
He also referenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees seeking elective positions in 2027 to resign by March 31, 2026.
Meanwhile, other prominent politicians from Oyo State expected to comply with the directive include former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, who is also eyeing the governorship seat.
Shittu currently serves as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Dave Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences in Ebonyi State.
