January 22 Was Freedom Day, Not Betrayal!” – Ganduje Fires Back
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared that January 22 should be remembered as the day Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, attained political freedom.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ganduje made the remark in response to comments by the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who criticized Governor Yusuf’s defection from the NNPP to the APC.
Kwankwaso had described January 22 as “World Betrayal Day,” characterizing Yusuf’s move as an act of disloyalty.
However, Ganduje rejected that interpretation while speaking during a condolence visit to former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, following the death of Shekarau’s brother.
“He may see me as an adversary, but I do not consider him one; I see him as a brother,” Ganduje said.
He added, “If he chooses to label January 22 — the day the governor left the NNPP — as ‘World Betrayal Day,’ then we will mark it as the day the governor secured his freedom.”
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to visit Kano on Monday to formally welcome Governor Yusuf into the APC at a grand reception scheduled to take place at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofar Mata.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and several APC governors are also expected at the event, which party officials have described as a significant political gathering aimed at strengthening the party’s presence in the North-West region.
Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, said the reception would serve as both a symbolic and formal induction of Yusuf into the party.
He described the development as a major milestone for the APC in Kano, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most strategically important political states. According to him, comprehensive preparations have been completed to ensure the ceremony proceeds smoothly.
