Jigawa Rolls Out New System To Simplify Tax Payments For CitizensGovernor Umar Namadi’s administration in Jigawa State has introduced a new digital tax payment system aimed at improving revenue collection and addressing the issue of multiple taxation. Speaking at an event in Dutse, Idris revealed that a workshop had been conducted for accountants and revenue mobilizers from various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to equip them with the skills needed to effectively utilize the new system. The JIGTAS system will streamline the collection and remittance of internally generated revenue (IGR) across the state’s MDAs.

In a related move, the Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to fully digitize its tax collection processes beginning in the 2025 fiscal year. During a media briefing in Uyo, the Executive Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Revenue Board, Okon Okon, shared that the implementation of electronic assessment, e-tax clearance, e-filing of tax returns, and the automation of registration and reporting processes would greatly improve the state’s revenue generation once the digital initiatives are fully rolled out.
