Katsina University Immortalizes Buhari With Posthumous Honorary Doctorate

The conferment, sanctioned by the university’s Governing Council, took place during UMYU’s 14th convocation ceremony held on Saturday in Katsina.

University officials explained that the honour was granted in recognition of Buhari’s enduring contributions to Nigeria’s political evolution, his visionary leadership, and his commitment to national unity and development.

They noted that the late president’s legacy—particularly his role in strengthening and advancing the country’s tertiary education sector—qualified him for the posthumous distinction.

According to the institution, the award also aims to prompt reflection on Buhari’s achievements in governance and nation-building, describing his record as a benchmark and source of inspiration for current and future leaders.

Representing other award recipients, former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmad Rufa’i, advised graduating students to embrace patriotism, integrity, and selfless service to the nation.

Rufa’i encouraged the graduates to apply their education toward fostering an inclusive society where peace, dignity, and equal opportunities prevail.

The convocation ceremony also witnessed the presentation of degrees and diplomas to students from various faculties.

Additionally, several prominent Nigerians received honorary awards in recognition of their contributions to national development, as the university celebrated academic excellence and leadership at the event.
