Legal Storm: Adeyanju Reacts To El-Rufai’s Release, Demands Court Backing

He described the decision by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to allow El-Rufai attend his mother’s burial as humane and commendable.

However, Adeyanju emphasized that since El-Rufai was being held based on a court order, any form of temporary release must also be supported by a corresponding directive from the court.

He explained that such a move represents a balance between enforcing the law and showing compassion, noting that granting temporary relief in such circumstances does not undermine accountability.

According to him, allowing El-Rufai attend the burial reflects a necessary blend of justice and respect for human dignity, adding that such decisions should be viewed as lawful and compassionate rather than a means of avoiding responsibility.
