Malami Reveals Multiple Terrorism Petitions Filed Against Him – Source Speaks

The Department of State Services (DSS) has rearrested former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, just hours after he was released on bail from Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja on Monday.

A security source confirmed to Daily Independent that Malami was taken into custody by DSS operatives over multiple petitions alleging terrorism financing.

“Yes, it is true that DSS operatives arrested Abubakar Malami (SAN). There are several petitions against him relating to alleged terrorism financing,” the source said, emphasizing that terrorism and terrorism financing are serious offences under both Nigerian and international law, and that no one is above investigation.

The source recalled that while serving as Attorney-General, Malami had insisted that the government would not shield anyone linked to terrorism or terrorism financing. “The same principle applies to all individuals, regardless of their status. No responsible government would ignore serious allegations of terrorism financing against anyone, including Malami, SAN,” he added.

Explaining the process, the source said Malami’s rearrest is part of routine inter-agency collaboration among Nigeria’s security agencies. “It is common for one agency to transfer a person under investigation to another sister agency. In this instance, the DSS, constitutionally mandated to handle terrorism-related offences, took the lead,” he stated.

Malami’s rearrest comes shortly after he regained freedom from Kuje, where he had been held following his arraignment on corruption-related charges.
