The video further revealed the officer providing his Access Bank account details to the motorist, instructing him to transfer the money before being allowed to proceed with his journey.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, swiftly responded to the video, condemning the officer’s actions as shameful and a violation of professional ethics. He assured the public that the incident would be thoroughly investigated, stating, “This is not allowed, so shameful. It’s condemned. We need more info about this. We will fish him out.”
This incident adds to the growing concerns over the conduct of some members of the Nigerian Police Force, as cases of extortion and abuse of power continue to be reported. Recently, there were allegations of police operatives kidnapping a businessman in Abuja and extorting a substantial sum from him without proper legal procedures.
Adejobi, in response to the kidnapping and extortion claims, assured the public that the police force had taken over the case, stating, “We have commenced the investigation into the case. Justice must be served.”
As these incidents spark outrage and condemnation from the public, there is a renewed call for accountability, transparency, and urgent reforms within the Nigerian Police Force to restore public trust and ensure the protection of citizens’ rights.
