Nationwide Reactions As Rita Edochie Calls For Community-Led Defense Against Insecurity

In a post shared on Wednesday, she expressed deep concern over the worsening state of insecurity. She also included an image of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, noting that he previously warned about the spread of armed groups across the country — warnings she believes were overlooked.

Edochie argued that the current situation has gone beyond what government alone can handle. She encouraged community authorities to empower capable young people to help reclaim forests and farmlands that have reportedly fallen under the control of criminal elements.

She maintained that kidnappings could be reduced if communities strengthened their own defenses, adding that armed groups operate freely because of the weapons they possess and the support they once received from corrupt officials.

According to her, local youths have a better understanding of their surroundings and can play a crucial role in protecting their people if leaders avoid compromises that undermine security efforts.

Edochie warned that failing to act could allow the threat to move even closer to homes and daily life.

“Let every community adequately empower their youths… let them secure the bushes and forests, and watch the kidnappings disappear,” she wrote.
