No Factions In PDP’—Wike Dismisses Internal Division Claims In Bold Statement

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a single, unified political platform, rejecting claims that the party is divided into factions.

Wike made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Abuja after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.

The former Rivers State governor noted that disagreements among party members are a normal feature of politics, but stressed that such differences should not be interpreted as evidence of factionalisation within the party.

He reiterated that despite internal disagreements among some stakeholders, the PDP continues to operate as one cohesive political organisation.

According to him, ongoing reconciliation efforts are part of preparations to strengthen the party ahead of its upcoming national convention.

“As far as I am concerned, there is only one PDP, and it would be incorrect to suggest otherwise,” Wike said.

He added that dissatisfaction among members is not unusual in political settings and does not automatically translate into division.

Wike further explained that reconciliation processes within the party will continue even after the scheduled PDP National Convention, set for March 29 and 30.

He clarified that the convention will not stop ongoing efforts to resolve disputes among party leaders and members.

According to him, dialogue remains central to addressing grievances within the party.

The minister also highlighted that the party is working within a tight schedule ahead of its primary elections.

He disclosed that the PDP primaries are expected to hold between April 23 and May 13, in line with the Electoral Act and guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Wike stressed that the timeline leaves limited room for delays in the party’s internal arrangements, adding, “This timeline leaves little room for delays.”
