Veteran Nollywood actress Fausat Balogun, widely known as Madam Saje, has opened up about the personal and professional struggles she faced throughout her decades-long career, including challenges in her marriage.

In a recent interview on Behind the Fame, the actress reflected on her journey of over 50 years in the film industry. She revealed that while on set, she could often sense tension at home depending on how her husband reacted whenever she made mistakes during performances.

According to her, a particular look from him usually signaled that there would be conflict later, highlighting the strain she experienced in her marriage.

She said: “Whenever I am acting and I make a mistake, my husband will look at me in a certain way, that means there will be a problem that night.”

Balogun also spoke about her difficult upbringing and early years in Yoruba theatre. She disclosed that she endured physical punishment from her father and sometimes went without food.

The situation, she said, became so severe that she had to find ways to survive, even if it meant taking food when she had nothing.

She added that her journey to success in the industry was far from easy. Unlike some of her peers, she did not take shortcuts but instead went through years of hardship and sacrifice before finally gaining recognition.
