In a statement released on Friday night, the party’s publicity secretary, Yusuf Idris, denied claims that the governor had submitted a letter expressing interest in joining the APC.
Idris said the report, which allegedly originated from Tambarin Gusau, was baseless and deliberately spread to misinform the public and stir unnecessary tension within the party.
“The Zamfara State APC came across a fabricated report, purportedly from Tambarin Gusau, claiming that Governor Dauda Lawal sent a letter to the party indicating his desire to join APC,” he said.
He emphasized that the APC operates through official channels and has not received any such letter.
“The party has not received any correspondence from Governor Dauda Lawal, nor is it aware of any move by him to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC,” Idris added.
The spokesperson urged APC members and the public, especially residents of Zamfara State, to disregard the report entirely, describing it as a false narrative aimed at causing confusion.
