In a message posted on his account on Thursday, Saraki applauded Obasanjo’s lasting impact on Nigeria’s political landscape and national development, noting that his life mirrors the country’s historical evolution.

The former Senate President said Obasanjo’s life and legacy remain closely connected to Nigeria’s history and progress.

“History is usually written in the past tense, but the life of our dear former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, continues as a living manuscript of the Nigerian story—still defying the odds and still commanding our attention,” Saraki wrote.

Saraki also prayed for continued strength and wisdom for the former military Head of State and civilian President, stressing that his voice remains valuable, especially during periods of national uncertainty.

“And so, Baba, as you celebrate another year, we honour not only the length of your life but also the enduring relevance of your voice,” he added.

“In times of national uncertainty, may your wisdom remain a dependable guide, and may your legendary wit stay as sharp as ever.

“Happy 89th Birthday, Your Excellency. May God grant you continued strength, sound health, and peace in the years ahead.”

Saraki’s tribute came shortly after President Bola Tinubu also extended his congratulations to Obasanjo on his 89th birthday, describing him as an elder statesman whose contributions to Nigeria remain significant.

Tinubu acknowledged the former president’s enduring influence on national development, particularly through his books, public commentary, and policy advocacy.

The President praised Obasanjo’s “towering influence” and commended “the zeal and wisdom he has brought into Nigeria’s development process through his writings and regular interventions, which demonstrate a deep commitment to nation-building.”

Speaking about his health and longevity, Obasanjo reportedly expressed gratitude to God for keeping him alive and in good condition at 89.

The former president also dismissed critics who wished him dead, insisting he would remain active for as long as God permits.

“God has assured me that He still has more for me to do on earth, and He has given me the strength to do it. I dey kampe as usual,” he was quoted as saying.
