TRENDING: Kaduna Bombing Incident Reveals Lack Of Coordination Among Security Agencies, Says Governor Sani – BushRadio (bushradiogist.com)
For weeks, Amaewhule and Edison Ehie have been entangled in a Speakership tussle, reflecting broader political divisions. Amaewhule is perceived as loyal to ex-governor Nyesom Wike, while Ehie aligns with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Assembly, under Amaewhule’s leadership, had previously served an impeachment notice on the governor and ousted Ehie as the House leader in October. However, in a swift countermove, Assembly members loyal to Fubara impeached Amaewhule and installed Ehie as the new Speaker.
The political crisis within the 32-member Assembly traces back to a rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Despite public appearances together, Monday’s defection of 27 lawmakers from the PDP to the APC adds a new layer of complexity to the state’s political landscape, hinting at potential further developments.
SDP, APC Members Join Fubara-Led PDP In a related development, key figures from other parties, including the deputy governorship candidate of the SDP in the 2023 election, Patricia Ogbonnaya, and former Ahoada-West Chairman, Karibo Wilson, announced their defection to the PDP over the weekend. The move saw them aligning with the PDP group loyal to Fubara, further intensifying the political dynamics in the state. Members from the Ehie-led group of lawmakers, including representatives from Ahoada West and Bonny Constituency, were also present at the event.”
