Palace Crisis! Benin Traditional Council Suspends Chief, Queen Over Peller Visit
The Benin Traditional Council has taken disciplinary measures against a palace chief, a queen, and other individuals following the unauthorized entry of social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, into the Oba of Benin’s palace.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The council described the incident as a serious breach of palace protocol that disrupted the established order and procedures within the royal premises.
According to the council, Adelaja and members of his team gained access to the palace without adhering to the required formalities, an action that allegedly caused embarrassment and unrest.
Following a preliminary investigation, a palace chief linked to the incident has been suspended. In addition, a staff member identified as Mr. Omuemu has been arrested and charged with facilitating the unauthorized entry.
The queen involved in the matter is currently under review and may face further disciplinary action, including possible removal.
The council has summoned Adelaja to appear for questioning and to submit a written apology. It warned that failure to comply could result in legal consequences.
New guidelines have also been introduced for palace access. These include the requirement of written applications, prior approval before entry, a prohibition on loitering within the palace grounds, and the issuance of official access passes.
The council stated that any future unauthorized access to the palace will be treated as a violation of traditional laws, with offenders subject to arrest and prosecution.
It emphasized the importance of safeguarding the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Benin Royal Palace.
Meanwhile, Peller is reportedly continuing his tour across several states in Nigeria.
