Patience Jonathan Under Fire: Sowore Seeks Arrest Over Alleged ₦750 Million Jewelry And Worker Torture Scandal

Reports reveal that Patience Jonathan has kept 15 of her domestic workers locked up in Bayelsa State’s Okaka Correctional Centre since 2019 over an unproven theft charge. The workers have reportedly been languishing in jail without trial, as their court hearings have been repeatedly delayed by the influential former First Lady.

Responding to the situation, Sowore took to his handle on Friday, April 4, 2025, to question where Patience Jonathan obtained the ₦750 million to purchase the jewelry.

Sowore expressed frustration, stating that Nigeria seems to be the only country where individuals accused of embezzling public funds have the gall to imprison others accused of stealing a fraction of the money they themselves allegedly looted.

He wrote, “Patience Jonathan has detained 15 domestic workers for over six years while awaiting trial for allegedly stealing ₦750 million worth of jewelry from her.

“Where did she get the funds to purchase ₦750 million worth of jewelry?

“Nigeria seems to be the only country where alleged public treasury looters have the audacity to imprison others for stealing a portion of the funds they looted from the public treasury.

“We must ensure their release from this unjust persecution. Patience Jonathan should be the one in prison.”
