PDP NEC Throws Weight Behind Caretaker Committee, Sets Date For High-Stakes National Convention
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed the authority of its National Caretaker Committee and set March 28 and 29, 2026, for the party’s National Convention.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The decision came at the 105th NEC meeting held in Abuja on Monday, where members unanimously validated all resolutions from the emergency 104th NEC meeting of December 7, 2025, declaring them binding and enforceable.
The NEC also endorsed a recent Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, which confirmed the legality of the PDP’s current leadership structure. Following the judgment, the NEC directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee as the lawful administrative authority of the party.
The committee urged all PDP organs, members, and stakeholders to comply with existing court rulings, while calling on INEC and other relevant institutions to implement the court’s decision.
Reaffirming its stance, the NEC declared that the National Caretaker Committee remains the only legitimate national administrative body of the PDP until a duly convened National Convention is held.
As part of preparations for the transition to elected leadership, the NEC approved a timetable for the nationwide congresses:

The caretaker committee was instructed to issue detailed guidelines for the congresses in accordance with the PDP Constitution and INEC regulations.
The NEC also approved the extension of the tenure of caretaker committees at the national, state, and zonal levels until the completion of the congresses and the National Convention.
Additionally, the National Caretaker Committee was tasked with immediately beginning preparations for the convention, including forming sub-committees and handling logistical arrangements.
Calling for unity and discipline within the party, the NEC urged members to remain loyal and committed, emphasizing the PDP’s goal of building a strong, stable, and competitive platform ahead of upcoming elections.
The committee expressed confidence that these resolutions would restore stability, strengthen internal democracy, and reposition the party for electoral success.
