The two officials are facing a two-count charge bordering on alleged criminal misappropriation of funds earmarked for the procurement of badges.
In the first count, the EFCC alleged that “Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed, in 2024 at Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, conspired among yourselves to commit an illegal act, to wit: criminal misappropriation, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 96 of the Penal Code Laws of the FCT.”
The second count states that the defendants “dishonestly converted the sum of ₦46,000,000.00 (Forty-Six Million Naira) out of ₦60,000,000.00 (Sixty Million Naira) meant for executing a contract for the supply of badges.”
Both Akon and Ahmed pleaded “not guilty” when the charges were read to them.
Following their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Khalid Sanusi, asked the court to set a date for the commencement of trial.
Justice Yusuf granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with one surety in the same amount. The sureties, the judge ruled, must be reputable individuals residing in Abuja.
