Wada received his APC membership card on Saturday during a brief ceremony held at his country home in Odu, Dekina Local Government Area.

According to his media aide, David Alfred-Dogwo, the defection marks a pivotal moment in Wada’s political journey and is expected to strengthen the APC’s presence in Kogi East.

“The brief but meaningful ceremony formally welcomes Capt. Wada into the APC and signals a new chapter in his political career,” Alfred-Dogwo said. He added that the event, which drew party leaders, supporters, and well-wishers, will bolster the APC’s position in Dekina and support the party’s preparations for upcoming elections, including President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Wada, who governed Kogi State from January 2012 to January 2016 under the PDP, unsuccessfully sought a second term in 2015 following a turbulent election cycle. The November 21, 2015 governorship election was declared inconclusive, and after the sudden death of APC candidate Abubakar Audu, a supplementary election on December 5 produced Yahaya Bello as governor.

Wada’s move represents a decisive break from the PDP and signals a significant shift in the political landscape of Kogi East, as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
