A coalition of socio-cultural and professional groups from Southern Kaduna has dissociated the region from recent calls proposing retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa as a potential running mate to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The clarification follows remarks by the President of the Southern Kaduna United People’s Association (SOKAPU), Samuel Tabara Kato, who commended President Tinubu for appointing General Musa as Minister of Defence and suggested that Southern Kaduna supports him for the vice-presidential slot.

However, representatives of the coalition — including Dr Simon Majimre of the Southern Kaduna Community Development Associations, Edward John Auta of Southern Kaduna Patriots for Good Governance, as well as leaders of the Southern Kaduna Professionals Forum and SOKAPU Youths — stated that Kato’s comments represent his personal opinion and not the collective position of the region.

They noted that no consultation was held with key stakeholders in Southern Kaduna before the remarks were made.

One representative also described the timing of the call as inappropriate, pointing out that the region is still reeling from the recent abduction of more than 170 people in Kurmin Wali.

According to the coalition, discussions about a presidential running mate are misplaced at a time when families and communities are dealing with ongoing trauma and uncertainty.

While acknowledging General Musa’s competence and credibility as a senior military officer, the group stressed that his immediate priority should remain addressing national security challenges in collaboration with the President and Vice President.

“Southern Kaduna remains united in its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, and distances itself from the unwarranted statement attributed to Mr Tabara,” the coalition said.

The group added that it fully supports the Defence Minister in carrying out his mandate to combat insecurity, as entrusted to him by the President and the Nigerian people.

The coalition also praised Governor Uba Sani for his swift intervention following the Kurmin Wali incident, citing the deployment of additional security personnel and the mobilisation of workers and equipment to construct a road that enhanced access for security agencies.

They noted that these efforts enabled the affected community to resume Sunday worship less than a week after the abduction, describing it as a positive development amid the crisis.

The group further urged Nigerians to reject divisive narratives capable of distracting the Defence Minister or undermining national cohesion.
