Political Twist: Datti Baba-Ahmed Promises To Back Peter Obi If ADC Ticket Slips Away

The Labour Party (LP) 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has appealed to former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to return to the party if he fails to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.

Datti Baba-Ahmed made the appeal during an interview on Trust TV, where he also said he has an alternative plan for Obi’s political future.

Speaking on the 2027 general elections and Obi’s chances of clinching the ADC presidential ticket, Baba-Ahmed expressed readiness to support him in securing the Labour Party presidential ticket if the ADC option does not materialise.

He said, “I have great respect for Peter Obi. If he doesn’t get the ADC ticket, he should please come back to the Labour Party.

“I will work for him and try to help him secure the LP ticket. I will also try to reconcile him with anyone he may have fallen out with.”

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the ADC and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, has urged the party to adopt a clear and strategic plan if it hopes to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Momodu made the call during a television interview, stressing that unity, experience, and proper political planning would be key for any opposition challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He noted that winning elections requires more than popularity or public excitement.

“What it takes to win an election is not just the crowd; it is not just the noise; it is not just your ideas; it is not how brilliant you are,” he said.

He also described President Tinubu as a strong political force who cannot be easily unseated through popularity alone.

“Tinubu is so formidable that you don’t just produce a candidate who can defeat him; it doesn’t work that way,” he added.
