Power Grab Exposed!” — Otitoju Says Rivers Impeachment Aimed At Making Speaker Acting Governor

Otitoju made the assertion on Sunday during an interview on TVC while analysing the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, where lawmakers have initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct.

He maintained that any governor who loses the backing of the state legislature risks removal from office.

According to him, “The Rivers State House of Assembly is pushing to impeach the deputy governor, even though they cannot clearly identify any wrongdoing on her part.

“That is why many people believe this is simply a political game designed to remove both the governor and his deputy, clearing the path for the Speaker to become acting governor.

“The reality is simple: once a governor no longer enjoys the support of lawmakers, his tenure becomes uncertain. This was exactly what happened to Balarabe Musa during his time as governor of Kaduna State.”

Meanwhile, a former Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Chijioke Ihunwo, has attributed the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State to what he described as external interference in the affairs of the State House of Assembly, insisting that Governor Fubara has committed no offence deserving of impeachment.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Saturday, Ihunwo said the crisis has persisted despite presidential intervention and emergency measures because certain political interests are determined to control the state’s political structure.

He argued that the governor is under intense pressure from forces unwilling to allow him exercise his constitutional responsibilities without interference.
