She also announced her decision to step down from the race, effectively ending her governorship ambition for 2027.
The development was confirmed in a statement she issued on Monday, April 13, 2026, after the party adopted Adeola as its preferred candidate during a caucus meeting held in Abeokuta.
The announcement of Adeola’s emergence was earlier made by Governor Dapo Abiodun at a stakeholders’ meeting.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, was selected at a strategic caucus meeting held at the party’s secretariat on Abiola Way, Abeokuta.
The meeting, convened by the state APC chairman, Yemi Sanusi, was attended by key party figures, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, former governor Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, Kola Bajomo, Salisu Shuaib, Gbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara, and other stakeholders.
Reacting to the outcome, Iyabo Obasanjo expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the opportunity to participate in the process and urged her supporters to remain calm.
“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” she said.
She added that, in light of the development, she had decided to withdraw from the governorship race.
Iyabo Obasanjo also thanked her supporters across the state for their loyalty and encouragement, urging them to remain hopeful and united going forward.
