Reno Omokri: “How Can The Opposition Beat Tinubu When He’s Delivering On His Promises

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has asserted that opposition parties stand little chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the president has successfully delivered on his campaign promises.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Omokri said Tinubu’s economic reforms have produced tangible results, reinforcing the ruling party’s growing political dominance and improving Nigeria’s macroeconomic indicators.

He noted that the APC now controls around 30 governorships, up from 20 in 2023, further limiting the opposition’s prospects.

Omokri asked, “If the opposition could not defeat Tinubu with about 20 governors in 2023, how are they going to defeat him now with 30? If they couldn’t beat him before he fulfilled his promises, how can they beat him after?”

He also highlighted international recognition of Tinubu’s policies, referencing recent remarks from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“Just last week, the IMF stated that countries seeking successful reforms should learn from Nigeria,” Omokri said. “We now have the second-largest manufacturing capacity in Africa and have added $67 billion to our GDP in just two years.”

Omokri emphasized that ordinary Nigerians are feeling the effects of Tinubu’s policies through increased purchasing power, affordable fuel, and shorter petrol queues.

“This is the first government since Yar’Adua’s that has reduced fuel prices multiple times, not just once. People are feeling it in their pockets. Do not be swayed by elites protesting at the National Assembly; they are trying to seize power. The average Nigerian has more purchasing power than ever. Fifty dollars converted to naira now buys more than in any other West African country,” he added.
